The National Family Day*

Hi, guys...
This is my third work for the blog assignment!
The topic is...
The National Family Week-The National Family Week-The National Family Week-The National Family Week-The National Family Week

The article can be found at http://sg.news.yahoo.com/070516/5/singapore276514.html
-----------------------------------------------------------------
“ Family quarrels are bitter things. They don't go by any rules. They're not like aches or wounds; they're more like splits in the skin that won't heal because there's not enough material.” ~F. Scott Fitzgerald~

Family Bonds
from http://images.inmagine.com/168nwm/stockdisc/sd155/249061sdc.jpg

As we know, nowadays people get more and more busy as the need to fulfill their daily necessity is getting higher. One of the results of this situation is that not only the parents, but also the children tend to become apart from each other. This condition is all mainly caused by the less time they have to chat together as a whole family.

First of all, the less time they have with their family means that they don’t have enough talk with each other that actually is needed in order to hold the family’s bundle. Let me give an example;

Suppose that you are the son of very busy businessman-and-women, your Mom and Dad go to work at early morning and come back home at late night. You barely have time to talk with them about your daily activities, such as what did you do in school today, etc. How do you feel?

I believe that many of us will fell very lonesome, considering that each one of us need someone to whom we can pour our heart. As a child, I fully realize this need to be loved and cared by my parents. This is why every time I think about them (as you know, now I live apart from them) I realize that I almost can’t do what I used to accomplish with their presence beside me. For example, school grades, I used to achieve a very good grade with their support, but now I aware that my grades for term one was quiet bad. Fortunately, I have many lovely friends and teachers here that can actually change my parents place (even for a while) and support me with their heart.

Secondly, many people argue that a child with a very busy parents tend to lose control of himself (as he has no one to tell him what is right or wrong). The worst thing happen when the child actually search for an alternative ways to fulfill his need to be loved, for example, by using drugs or worse, joining certain gang. This condition really happens in our community, and it is quiet frightening to see how family bond really matters.

Broken family ties

Thirdly, the lack of family time will not only affect the children but also the husband and wife. If let say, they go to work at different place only meet at late night, and at that time both of them are very tired because of their daily chores. They can’t fulfill each other needs not only physically but also mentally. They will be involved in some family quarrels and scarily it will likely to end up with divorcement.

From all of the reason I have given above, I think that the National Family Day is really helpful in binding the family bond that usually can’t be tied considering that many of us nowadays are very busy with our daily jobs. In this event, there will be many series of program and activities that hopefully can tighten the family bond by giving them the opportunity to spend the time together.

God saved me

It's my third poem...
Yeay!!
It is about what happened to me last night.
Hope you like my style of making a poem (by using metaphor)
----------------------------------------------------------

I was slept,
taken away by Hypnus
a while after i drink
a capsule for my cough

As a part of my society culture,
just after the clock
pointed the golden rectangle,
we have to meet at a point
so that every head can be counted

But, as i slept
i didn't realize
that i almost late for the roll

My divinities are to busy
with their daily work
that no one managed to
take me back from the Hypnus

But, God sent me His Angel
and fetch me,
right when the clock
pointed the golden rectangle

I ran to the point
for the sake of my body
as this bopy can't endure
the punishment of being late

Once again,
God save me.
For as i ran, i could feel
the time stopped

I arrived at the point
just in time.
Oh, thank you God...
for what you had done to me...
And now I realize,
that I don't have any true gods,
but You

Christian Nonviolence*

Hi, guys...
This is my second work for the blog assignment!
The topic is...
Christian Nonviolence- Christian Nonviolence - Christian Nonviolence - Christian Nonviolence

The article can be found in Catholic News, Sunday, 04 March, 2007
Or from the URL: http://www.catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/0700960.htm
-----------------------------------------------------------------

“But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you”
-Matthew 5:44-

For many Christians, this utterance, which is believed to be the ‘Magna Carta’ of Christian Nonviolence, must be familiar to them as the Church had taught them about this utterance since they were a little kid.

Love your enemies
from http://globalrecordings.net/images/avs/gn-29.jpg
(a picture about the story which Jesus told to his followers about a man who was travelling along a road. Robbers attacked him and beat him up. A man from another tribe found the badly injured man. He bandaged his wounds. He put the man on his donkey and took him to an inn where he took care of him. He himself paid the innkeeper to look after the sick man until he was better. Jesus said we too should love and help anyone who is in need, even people of other races or religions.)

But the truth is that many of us abandoned it and some even chose to follow the other utterance which is;
“You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemies”, instead.

Pope Benedict XVI believes that to overcome the violence and injustice in this world, we have to use more love and more goodness to counter it, rather than revenge it with another violence and injustice.

“Nonviolence, is not simply a tactical behavior,” the Pope said, “but rather is a way of being, the attitude of one who is so convinced of the love of God and His power, That he is not afraid to face evil with only the weapons of love and truth”

From what the Pope said, I can infer that Christian Revolution, which is to break down the chain of injustice in the world, is not based on the strategies of power, but is a revolution of love.

The very first time I heard about Christian Nonviolence is when the Father of my old Church in Indonesia told me about Matthew 5:44.
(I was 10 years old back then)
That time, I personally confused as it is very odd to love someone who had hurt us.
But, as I grew older, I realize what it really means…

To make it easier to understand what the utterance means, let us think about this…
There was someone who hate you and abuse you,

  • Firstly, you could abuse him back.
But he would likely to be more and more harsh to you,
and your problem would not be solved.

  • Secondly, you could remain silent and let him do whatever he wants
As time passed by, he would likely to be bored and left you alone,
but your problem would not be completely solved.

  • Or, lastly, you could counter him with love and kindness.
He would likely touched by your reaction and realize that he had done something wrong to you.
He would then say sorry to you and your problem would be solved.

    Poem of Envy & Vanity

Okay... This is my second published poem
(the first one is "my angels")
    It reflects my feeling today...
    Hope you like it!
    Anyway, Happy Valentine's day everyone...

    ----------------------------------------

    I have hundred of divinities,
    but two
    that are not ordinary

    One express the VANITY
    and one express the ENVY

    Vanity is a good friend
    even her arrogance
    disturbs most of souls
    but, deep inside
    there is a pure truth

    While, Envy is so clever
    she can manipulate souls
    to cover her sins
and Vanity is now her prey

    Envy's cleverness
    besmirched Vanity
in front of the other souls,
so that they began to avoid
    the poor Vanity

    I might never realized
    if Wrath in my soul
    didn't tell me so

    Once,
    Envy sullied Wrath's name
    in front of Sloth and
vise versa she did to Sloth

    Sloth is too lazy
    to realize it
    But the anger of Wrath
was not easy to be tricked

    Yet, Envy is so clever
that even the anger of Wrath
    couldn't defeat her

    If only every souls
    realize who Envy really is
    they might know how dangerous
    she is

    But it would never happen
    because Envy is so clever
    in a vile way

    Cost of Global Warming*

    Hi, it's Mulia again!
Yup, now I'd like to give my opinion toward a news from http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/181_1924628,0094.htm.
As you can see from the title, it's about

    Global Warming-Global Warming-Global Warming-Global Warming-Global Warming-Global Warming

    (n.b: it's for the blog assignment^^)
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, nowadays, the issue of global warming is not as unusual as it was in the last decade. Ten years ago, when the scientists pronounced that global warming had begun, we might be unaware of it as we hadn't seen any evidences. But, now the effect of global warming can be found easily, for example: the drop of crop yields, tropical diseases, and the loss of Arctic ice that caused the see level to be higher.

The biggest impact for us that's quite noticeable is the large number of flood cases in several countries, such as; Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, West New York, Tanzania, and Peru.

The result of an observation on the greenhouse gasses, especially carbon dioxide and methane, shows that in recent decade these gasses occurs more likely due to the burning of fossil fuels and the deforestation of tropical forests than to natural occurrence.

    Burning of fossil fuels
    from http://www.sciencenewsforkids.org/articles/20041208/a610_3857.jpg

    Deforestation
    from http://home.swipnet.se/vingen/Regnskogen/Bilder/DEFORESTATION.JPG

According to the article, the extent of damage to the ecosystem will increase with every degree increase in the temperature. The 0.7 degree increase in warming so far has resulted in frequent extreme weather conditions, floods and droughts and, to some extent, migration of plant and animal species. If we didn't take any immediate action, the temperatures of the world would increase by 6.4 degrees by 2100. Could you imagine what will happen then?

It’s not just something that the author wrote to frightened us, it’s rather something for us to think of.

Imagine our world become very hot as the result of global warming and being a human being in this 'modern world', we will likely to install more air-con in our rooms. But do you realize that the air-con will discharge the greenhouse gas? The gas will then affect the ozone, and as the result global warming will become worse and worse as the time passed by.

I tend to think that the article is very necessary for most of the people, so that they will become more aware of what is happening in our world.
In my own point of view, men should be more concerned with their environment. Not just to prevent the further damage of global warming but also to make a better world for the next generation to live.

    Now, think about this…
Our world, the place where we live, the place that gives us a lot of memories, and the place where the future generations would live is now dying for what we had done.
It is almost impossible now to heal the damage, but we at least can stop the further damage by being more concerned about it.

“I expect to pass through this world but once.
If, therefore there can be any kindness I can show or any good thing I can do
    let me do it now...
Let me not defer it, or neglect it,
For I shall not pass this way again.”

Stephen Grellet (Etienne de Grellet du Mabillier)

    I have two angels
    who always accompany me
Even when they're not beside me
They will always in my heart
for all the time of my life

Since i was born in this world
    they have been my cheerfulness,
    my strength,
    and also my admires

    They have the biggest beauty
    that i've ever seen
    They watched me grew up
    and took care of me

    They always make me
    their priority
    whatsoever it takes

    When i was sad
